Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Practice 1 – What is honor?
Proverbs 21:21 “Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.”
Practical Application
This season we are going to talk all about honor. So what is honor? Honor is when we show someone they have value to us. Can you think of someone who you value and respect? Can you think of a way to honor them? There are many ways we can honor others but one of the best ways is by how we treat them. We honor others when we treat them with respect. In sports, we can honor our teammates and our coaches by being a great teammate. That’s exactly what we are going to learn this season…how to be a great teammate!
Spiritual Application
Did you know that God wants us to honor others above ourselves? He also says that we find honor when we pursue kindness. The Bible says, “Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.” In sports, this means when we are kind to others we are showing them honor. Learning how to show honor is one of the things I love about sports! This year we are going to learn all about honoring our teammates, coaches, referees and opponents. God knows it is important for us to honor others and he tells us that honor is good!
Challenge
Think about some ways you can honor your teammates this year. Next time we are going to talk all about honoring our teammates and coaches!
